St Michael’s Uganda

St Francis School has been linked with St Michael’s Primary School, Busembatia, Uganda, since 2009.  St Michael’s is a government aided school 88 miles from Kampala and situated in a remote and rural area. There are over 600 girls and 12 boys, both boarding and day scholars. Most come from desperately poor backgrounds and some are orphans who are given food and shelter by the school.

St Michael’s may seem like a million miles away from the beautiful setting of St Francis School, but with the School Link, both schools share their experiences and knowledge with the aim of enhancing all pupils’ understanding of the world around them.

Here is the most recent update from St Michael’s;

This term the pupils at St Michael’s have been developing their literacy skills, and enjoying their newly re-painted library. They took part in a “Big Tent” book event, which included a reading aloud competition, and displays of handwriting.

At St Francis, some of our pupils have written book reviews, or compiled lists of recommended titles to inspire and encourage St Michael’s with their further reading.  St Francis Year 2 children were thrilled to receive letters in reply to (rather a lot of) questions about life in Uganda.
