Reception : Foundations for the future

In Reception, known as Oaks, the EYFS Curriculum, Development Matters, is delivered by our Class teacher, supported by a full-time Teaching Assistant. Specialist teachers deliver French, PE and Music each week.

Pupils in Reception arrive in their classrooms between 8.30am and 8.55am, accompanied by a parent, choosing to engage in a range of activities before registration at 9.00am. Reception children are collected from the Haybrook courtyard at 3.35pm. Parents with Reception-aged children have access to extended day provision in the form of Breakfast Club (7.45-8.30am) and Care Club (3.35-6.00pm).

Pre-Prep Years 1 & 2 : Growing in confidence

In Pre Prep, subjects are taught by the class teacher, often with a teaching assistant. Specialist teachers are used for Music, French, Games and Swimming.

The Pre Prep curriculum is varied and exciting, mainly taught through topics. These have included, Where I Live; Water All Around; At the Seaside. We aim to take the children out of school on regular trips, both locally and further afield. For example a visit to Devizes Canal Museum  or off to Dorset to visit Mudeford Beach. This greatly enhances learning and also allows children to experience life outside school, thus developing their confidence.

These younger pupils grow considerably in confidence during Year 1. By the time they reach the end of Year 2, they are ready to take on the challenges and opportunities that the Junior Prep Department offers, and become more responsible for their own organisation and extra-curricular activities. Pupils have the option of being collected at 3.45pm or staying on at our Care Club, from where they can be collected up until 6.00pm (Monday to Friday).
