Orchestra Day at Downe House

Members of the St Francis Orchestra enjoyed the recent Orchestra day at Downe House School. The day was based upon the theme of the Proms and included performances of ‘La Rejouissance’ from ‘Music from the Royal Fireworks’ by Handel and ‘Auld Lang Syne’. In addition to the full orchestra performances, Brass, Woodwind and Percussionists performed an arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s ‘1812 Overture’ and the String players performed an arrangement of Elgar’s ‘Nimrod’ from the Enigma Variations opus.36.

st-francis-orchestraThe St Francis musicians demonstrated much determination as they focused upon learning all of the music, during the rehearsals at Downe House. We were delighted that Year 8 pupil Isla, the leader of our school orchestra, was selected to lead the orchestra of 150 pupils for the day.

Very well done to our musicians! We are already looking forward to the Orchestra Day next year.
