The Complete Refurbishment of the George Cannon Centre (Science)

Work is underway for a complete refurbishment of the whole of the George Cannon Centre which houses our science laboratory.  The building is being gutted to produce a more spacious entrance foyer and two science teaching rooms – one a fully-fitted lab, the other a general lab suitable for science and other DT based subjects – with a prep room between the two labs.

A prompt start to building work was made during the Easter break, already the southern older side of the building has seen much work, both inside and especially outside. The internal walls and staircase have been removed and a new external stairway has been erected at the back of the building giving access to the new upstairs Drama Studio.

Progress so far

The refurbished building will be ready for the start of the Autumn Term, the re-opening being the first of many events planned to celebrate the school’s 75th anniversary.Headmaster David Sibson said “It is fantastic that the school is in such a strong financial position that we can carry out this major £175k project well in advance of our original plans and without the need for additional financial support.”
