Art & DT Room : A Hive of Activity!
The Art room has been a hive of activity in the last month. Two bees have emerged from a stock of chicken wire, modroc, found objects and tinsel. The Year 5 children have been busy cutting, sawing, sewing and painting. They have worked brilliantly in groups, problem solving and discussing their creative ideas.
The children decided they wanted to make one bee from tinsel and one bee from anything natural that they could scavenge from the school grounds. They made the bees because St Francis were invited to participate in the Pewsey Arts Walk which takes place each year; this year the theme was ‘with nature in mind’. They had a brief to create an insect no more than a metre long, which was showerproof and anatomically correct.
Year 5 rose to the challenge and were rewarded with a trip to see their bees in a private viewing at the Heritage Centre on Monday 18th. As they turned the corner and saw one of their bees taking centre stage in the exhibition many of them gasped and all of them looked very proud of their hard work.
Well done, Year 5!
