75th Anniversary Celebration Day

We were delighted to welcome back a wide age range of alumni (some of whom were pupils during the 1940’s),  former staff and former parents for our 75th Anniversary Celebration last Sunday.  This event was the culmination of a year long programme of events to mark our 75th Anniversary academic year.

St Francis was founded in September 1941 by Miss Phyllis Burden, with just four pupils in the Rectory Rooms in Pewsey.  It was therefore fitting that our 75th Anniversary Finale Celebration commenced with a Service of Thanksgiving at St John’s Church, Pewsey.  Reverend Jennifer Totney took the service which included a recital by the St Francis Choir and readings and prayers by ex-Deputy Head, Charles Todd and by Phyllis Burden’s Great, Great Niece – Flora Drake Burrows, who is a current pupil at St Francis.

Following the Church service, guests enjoyed a Pimms Reception on the school Tennis Court Lawn followed by lunch in the Dining Hall and a trip down memory lane with tours of the school, and a visit to the Memorabilia Room which contains the school archives and diaries.  Pupils from the 1940s were delighted to find old friends and to discover anecdotes and photographs of themselves contained within Phyllis Burden’s detailed Diaries.
